My daughter, Matilda (above), had a playdate with two of her besties, Jamie & Porter. I had my studio set up for a client shoot later that day, so we took advantage of their cuteness and threw an impromptu Valentine's Day Kids Photoshoot with these model babies. Warning! Cuteness ahead!! Book your photoshoot session by calling/texting 417-848-0932 or email [email protected].

This project starts my journey into being a Medical Illustrator, and I'm excited for where the type of projects this is going to be adding to my creative pipeline. Creating this cover art for The Journal of Infectious Diseases was a really neat process. The agency I'm working with sent me several reference images, as well as previous covers of the journal as a jumping off point. The reference images included the various kinds of bacteria and viruses they wanted included, as well as an example of what the people in the image would be doing. They wanted a female doctor and patient and for the doctor to be doing the test swab in the illustration. I created my initial sketch with a few different variations and they narrowed the sketch down to this final version (see below) to go onto the next round. They had also sent me an image I illustrated for the Springfield Daily Citizen's series on Domestic Violence - they like the style I did that illustration in and wanted this illustration in that similar style. Since I like to experiment and create in multiple styles of illustration, it's always helpful to know which the client wants. For the fully fleshed out, in color version I also created several with slight variations for them to choose from. After just one small round of revisions, this is the final version that was approved for publication. If you are looking for a medical illustrator, don't hesitate to reach out!

For the first look, we shot at Ellis Hall on the MSU campus. Gabe is a talented musician - I love when we can find creative and artistic ways to represent who you are and what this time in your life looks like. Ellis Hall provided some really cool opportunities with lighting and architecture. For the second and third looks, Gabe was interested in leaning into 90's fashion, bright colors, and two outdoor style (nature vs industrial). He has great style and I loved each of the looks he came up with. This session was shot over 4 hours and 3 locations, I then edited the photos and delivered them in a Web-Size and Print-Size digital album the next day (over 300 photos). My turnaround time does vary depending on what all is on my plate but it's never more than 1 week.

The Aster Awards is the nation's most elite competition dedicated to recognizing the most talented healthcare marketing professionals for outstanding excellence in advertising, marketing and communications. Recently, I have been staying booked and busy with all kinds of graphic design and illustration work. This has been nice because it's been freezing outside, so staying in and working by the fireplace while sipping coffee, pups at my feet, warm blankets all around me....well, it's a Taurus Dream! There has been postcards, banners and newsletter designs for the Springfield Art Museum, logos and branding for a new company, newsletter design with playlist creation and writing for a friend's incredible lamp company, and a slew of medical illustrations for Medavera. When I was younger and pursuing a career in acting, my dream job was to play a doctor on a successful, long running tv show like Grey's Anatomy. While I never got there - I did get to play a "holistic healer" on an episode of I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant (lol). Then, I got a job writing plastic surgery blogs which I did for 9 years until my boss was arrested for hiring a hit man to kill a former employee. Anyway, all this to say, from growing up as the daughter of a Pharmacist, to being a candy stripe hospital volunteer, to my own searches to figure out answers for my chronic health issues...the medical field has never been far from view. So, I love that I can now use my illustration skills to contribute to the medical field. For this project, the client needed an illustration to promote their Webinar on RSV. They had a quick turnaround, so we didn't start with a sketches or have multiple rounds of revisions. It was a 2 day turnaround. The image was to include RSV bacteria, testing materials, and the two most vulnerable subjects for RSV. This is what I came up with. What do you think? If you are in need of illustrations for your business, don't hesitate to reach out!

As temperatures dropped nearly below freezing, Mandy braved the stark cold like a stone cold fox. We found a hidden forrest spot to shoot in and thanks to the cold weather, there was no one out and about. I love how Mandy's natural features just scream silent film star era. As the date got closer, the shoot evolved into just the sisters two families and the ghost looks went by the wayside. But as I was editing, I knew there would be some room to play to bring some ghosts back into the equation as a fun surprise. When you book any time of family session with me, all combinations of family members, as well as individual portraits are included. As with all my shoots, we shoot until we feel like we have lots of good shots to choose from. I edit all the usable ones (usually over a 100) and email you the link to two albums, one optimized for printing and one for sharing online. You can then print any of them you like, wherever you want, in any size. As mentioned earlier, I included some fun creative edits as a surprise for this client, since they didn't end up getting to do their fun ghost shots. If you are looking for a creative family photographer in Springfield MO, who you gonna call? Ghost shooters! Just kiddin' - call me.

For the second look, we went out to Valley Water Mill and frolicked in the creek near golden hour. The lighting was magical, and I love how these turned out with the fall colors. For the last look, after the sun went down, we met up downtown to grab some shots featuring neon and city light bokeh from the ground level and top of the parking garage. Denae absolutely killed all three looks. Which is your favorite? I always like to include some black and white photos for every session - as much as I LOVE color, there is just always something so timeless and classic about black and white photos and sometimes images just pop a little more in black and white. If you are looking for a creative, editorial photographer for your Senior Photos in Springfield, MO (or surrounding areas) don't hesitate to reach out!
