Designing Indie is Moving to The Hague, Netherlands! | A New Chapter for My Creative Business6/29/2026 After years of photographing, illustrating, designing, and managing creative projects throughout Missouri, it's time for my biggest adventure yet.
Designing Indie is moving from Springfield, Missouri to The Hague, Netherlands! In July 2026, my wife, Xena, our daughter, Matilda, our dog Roxie, and I will begin an exciting new chapter as we relocate to the Netherlands under the Dutch-American Friendship Treaty (DAFT) Visa. While my address is changing, the heart of my business isn't. I'll continue serving clients around the world while expanding my creative work throughout Europe. And honestly... I couldn't be more excited. From Springfield, Missouri to The Hague, Netherlands Designing Indie has always been built around one idea: Tell meaningful stories through creative work. Whether that's through photography, illustration, graphic design, or project management, my favorite projects have always been the ones that help people and organizations communicate who they are. Over the past several years, I've had the privilege of working with:
Photography That Tells Stories Photography has always been much more than taking pictures for me. I'm drawn to stories. To emotion. To personality. To creating images that still feel meaningful years later. As I move to Europe, I'm especially excited to continue specializing in:
I have a feeling my hiking boots and camera are about to become very good friends. Continuing to Work with Art Museums Some of my favorite professional experiences have come from partnering with museums and cultural organizations. From photographing exhibitions and community events to designing exhibit banners, newsletters, promotional materials, and marketing graphics, I love helping museums tell their stories visually. I'm excited to build relationships with museums, galleries, theaters, and arts organizations throughout the Netherlands while continuing to support clients remotely whenever possible. Medical & Commercial Illustration Long before I became a full-time illustrator, I spent nearly a decade writing for medical websites and researching complex healthcare topics. That background continues to influence my illustration work today. I love translating complicated ideas into visuals that are clear, engaging, and scientifically grounded. Whether illustrating molecules, medical devices, patient education materials, journal covers, or webinar graphics, I approach every project with curiosity, research, and close collaboration. I'll also continue creating commercial illustrations for products, brands, editorial publications, and licensed artwork. Graphic Design That Solves Problems Design should do more than look nice. It should communicate. Throughout my career I've created:
Project Management for SEO Marketing Agencies One part of Designing Indie that many people don't immediately associate with creativity is project management. But to me, it's one of the most creative jobs there is. Over the past five years, I've managed more than 50 long-term SEO campaigns for businesses across a wide variety of industries. From coordinating strategists, writers, designers, and developers to keeping projects on schedule and aligned with client goals, I love bringing order to complex marketing campaigns. As I relocate to the Netherlands, I'll continue working remotely with SEO agencies and in-house marketing teams around the world. Distance has never been a barrier to good communication. Why the Netherlands? The Netherlands has been calling to our family for quite some time.
Moving under the DAFT Visa gives me the opportunity to continue growing Designing Indie while becoming part of a new creative landscape. It's both exciting and a little surreal! A Thank You to Missouri Springfield will always be where Designing Indie truly found its footing.
Those experiences are coming with me. Looking Ahead This move isn't the end of Designing Indie. It's the beginning of an exciting new chapter. I'll continue working with clients across the United States while welcoming new partnerships throughout the Netherlands and Europe.
Let's Create Something Together Whether you're in Missouri, the Netherlands, or anywhere else in the world, I'd love to collaborate. Designing Indie continues to offer:
See you in The Hague.

Starting a new leadership role is exciting. It's also the perfect time to update your professional image. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a newly promoted Nurse Manager who needed updated professional headshots for her new position. Like many people, her previous "headshots" weren't actually headshots at all—they were photos taken on her iPhone. And while smartphone cameras have come a long way, there comes a point in your career when a professional image can make a big difference. So I packed up my backdrop, lights, and camera gear and brought the studio directly to her home. Professional Headshots Without Leaving Home One of the biggest misconceptions about headshots is that you have to visit a photography studio. You don't. For this session, I transformed a small area of her home into a professional headshot studio in just a few minutes. With a backdrop, professional lighting, and a little guidance, we created a variety of polished images without her ever needing to leave the house. For busy professionals—especially healthcare workers, managers, and executives—that convenience can be a game changer. Easy, Fun, and Surprisingly Relaxed A lot of people tell me the same thing before a headshot session: "I hate having my picture taken." The truth is, most people aren't professional models—and they don't need to be. My goal is always to create an experience that feels relaxed and comfortable. This session ended up being:
The result was a gallery full of professional images that still felt authentic and approachable. Plenty of Great Options One thing I hear often from clients is that they don't want to be stuck choosing between only one or two images. Neither do I. That's why my headshot sessions focus on creating plenty of variety. Different expressions. Different crops. Different levels of professionalism and personality. Whether she needed a formal leadership portrait for the hospital website or a more approachable image for LinkedIn and networking, she now has options. Same-Day Delivery Need updated headshots quickly? I've got you. This entire session was:
No waiting weeks for a gallery. No wondering when your photos will arrive. Just professional images ready to use immediately. Why Professional Headshots Matter Whether you're:
A professional image communicates confidence, credibility, and professionalism before you ever say a word. Mobile Headshot Sessions in Springfield MO I regularly bring my mobile studio directly to:

Some of my favorite photography sessions involve musicians. Music is personal. Creative. Emotional. And when musicians are developing new work, there are often stories, themes, and ideas that deserve visuals just as thoughtful as the music itself. That's one reason I've loved working with Molly Healey over the years. I've photographed Molly multiple times, creating images that have been used for album artwork, promotional materials, show announcements, and marketing for her music. In fact, our working relationship has lasted so long that I even photographed her daughter's senior photos. This latest session was designed to support upcoming music—and it was one of those wonderfully creative shoots that reminded me why I love working with artists so much. Why I Love Photographing Musicians Musician sessions are rarely about simply getting a nice headshot. Instead, they tend to explore:
The clothing, location, lighting, colors, and posing all become part of a larger story. For photographers, that's incredibly fun. Look One: Fur at the Pool For the first look, Molly wore fur while standing around a swimming pool. The contrast was immediate and fascinating. Warm clothing in a cold environment. Someone who looked both connected to and disconnected from her surroundings. Comfortable and uncomfortable at the same time. The imagery felt cinematic, surreal, and intentionally out of place—exactly the kind of creative tension that makes an image memorable. Sometimes the most interesting photographs come from putting things together that don't naturally belong. Look Two: A White Dress in a Field For the second look, we moved into a completely different visual world. A flowing white dress. Open space. Natural light. A quiet field. The result was softer, more ethereal, and full of movement. Where the pool images felt bold and unsettling, these images felt reflective and dreamlike. I love when a session gives us completely different visual directions while still feeling cohesive. Creative Double Exposures Before wrapping up, we headed inside for some experimental work. We created a series of double exposure images that layered multiple visual elements together to create something more artistic and abstract. These kinds of images aren't always the obvious choice—but they're often the ones that become favorites. As both an illustrator and photographer, I've always been drawn to work that pushes beyond straightforward documentation and into visual storytelling. Long-Term Creative Partnerships One of the most rewarding parts of my job is building long-term relationships with clients. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with Molly on:
That's the beauty of working with musicians. The work evolves as the artist evolves. Musician Photography in Springfield MO

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph employee headshots for Arc of the Ozarks at their Monett, Missouri office, bringing a complete mobile headshot studio directly to their workplace. The result? Consistent, professional headshots for employees without the hassle of coordinating travel, scheduling off-site appointments, or disrupting the workday. Bringing the Studio to Your Office One of the biggest advantages of corporate headshot photography is flexibility. For this session, I drove to Arc of the Ozarks' Monett location and transformed part of their office into a professional headshot studio. The setup included:
Simple. Efficient. Stress-free. Why On-Site Corporate Headshots Make Sense Coordinating professional headshots for an entire team can be challenging. When employees have to travel to a photographer's studio, organizations often face:
Everyone stays on-site, leadership doesn't have to coordinate multiple appointments, and employees can update their professional image with minimal interruption to their day. Fast Turnaround for Busy Organizations Like all Designing Indie photography services, fast delivery is a priority. The Arc of the Ozarks headshots were:

Morgan's recent 2 look senior session in Springfield MO is a perfect example. We combined two completely different locations—lush gardens and historic city streets—to create a gallery with incredible variety, all in a single evening. And the best part? The entire gallery of 100+ edited photos was delivered in less than 24 hours. Garden Vibes at Nathanael Greene Park We started the evening at Nathanael Greene Park, one of Springfield's most popular locations for senior photos. The gardens were in bloom, the light was beautiful, and the setting provided the perfect backdrop for a classic, timeless senior portrait look. This location is ideal for seniors who love:
A Completely Different Look on Commercial Street For the second look, we headed to Commercial Street. One of the biggest advantages of a two-location session is the ability to create variety, and Commercial Street always delivers. Historic brick buildings, colorful storefronts, alleyways, murals, and urban textures create an entirely different feel from the gardens at Nathanael Greene. Within the same session, Morgan ended up with photos that felt both:
When Should You Take Senior Photos? Morgan is currently a junior preparing to enter her senior year. A lot of families ask me: "When is the best time to schedule senior photos?" The truth is, there isn't one. Some seniors book:
Morgan decided to get a jump start on her photos this year because my family and business are relocating to The Netherlands in July 2026, and she wanted to make sure she secured her session while I was still photographing in Missouri. The best time for senior photos is simply whenever works best for your schedule. Fast Turnaround, No Photo Limits One thing that sets Designing Indie apart is that I don't believe in making clients wait weeks for their photos. Morgan's session was photographed Saturday evening. By the following day, her gallery was finished and delivered. That included:

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a senior session that feels completely unique to the person in front of the camera. Ebbie’s session was exactly that. From flowers and gazebos to neon lights and electric bass guitar, this shoot had raaaange. It was creative, personal, stylish, and full of details that reflected who she is right now as she prepares to enter her senior year. If you're looking for editorial senior photos in Springfield MO, this session is a perfect example of how senior portraits can go beyond traditional yearbook-style photos and become something truly memorable. When Should You Schedule Senior Photos? One of the most common questions I get is: "When should I take my senior photos?" The answer is: whenever feels right for you. Some students schedule their photos:
Ebbie chose to do her session before entering her senior year, which is a popular option because schedules tend to get busier once school starts. Plus, it gives plenty of time to use photos for announcements, social media, graduation materials, and family gifts. Look One: Flowers, Books, and an Upright Bass We started the evening at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park at 7:30pm. The first look felt romantic, artistic, and timeless. Surrounded by flowers, pathways, and gazebos, Ebbie incorporated some of her favorite things into the session:
And Ebbie's story came through beautifully. Look Two: Downtown Springfield After Dark After sunset, we completely changed the mood. We headed downtown to explore alleyways, neon signs, city lights, and some iconic Springfield landmarks. The second look featured Ebbie's electric bass and felt much more editorial and energetic. The contrast between the two locations is one of my favorite things about this gallery. Within a single session we created:
Shoutout to the Parents One thing I absolutely loved about this session? Ebbie's parents came along and helped transport all of the props between locations. Books, instruments, outfit changes—you name it. As a photographer, I always appreciate supportive parents who help make creative ideas happen. It takes a team sometimes, and Ebbie's family was all in. More Than 100 Photos Delivered the Next Day This session took place from approximately 7:30pm to 9:00pm across two Springfield locations. The next day? The gallery was finished and delivered.
Why I Love Editorial Senior Photos Traditional senior portraits are great. But editorial senior portraits allow us to create images that feel:
