Museum Photographer Springfield MO
Professional Photography for Museums, Galleries, & Cultural Institutions
Hi, I’m Andie Mae, photographer and visual storyteller behind Designing Indie. For over 7 years, I’ve worked as a professional museum photographer, documenting exhibits, installations, and events for cultural institutions — including serving as the official exhibit and event photographer for the Springfield Art Museum.
Museum photography is a specialized craft. It requires technical precision, deep respect for the artwork, and an understanding of how images will be used long after an exhibit closes. My goal is always the same: to capture artwork accurately, beautifully, and with integrity, while also telling the story of the space and the experience.

Why Professional Museum Exhibit Photography Matters
High-quality exhibit photography serves many important purposes for museums and galleries, including: • Archival documentation of exhibitions and installations • Marketing and promotion for future exhibits • Press and publication use • Grant applications and reports • Social media and website content • Historical record of the institution’s work Once an exhibit is deinstalled, professional photographs often become the only lasting record. That’s why experience matters. |
The Art (and Challenge) of Photographing Art
Photographing artwork isn’t the same as photographing people or events. It comes with unique challenges, including:
• Mixed and difficult lighting
• Reflective surfaces and glass
• Color accuracy
• Scale and spatial relationships
• Installation context
• Protecting the integrity of the work
As the daughter of an artist — and an artist myself -- I deeply value and respect the creative process. I approach every exhibit with care, precision, and an understanding that the artwork comes first. My editing style prioritizes true color, accurate representation, and faithful documentation, while still creating images that are visually compelling.

Experience with the Springfield Art Museum
I’ve had the honor of working extensively with the Springfield Art Museum, photographing:
• Rotating and permanent exhibits
• Exhibition openings
• Artist talks and workshops
• Public programs and events
In addition to photography, I also provided graphic design services for the museum — creating newsletters, posters, and promotional postcards that supported their exhibitions and programming. This dual background allows me to photograph exhibits with an understanding of how images will be used across print, digital, and promotional platforms.
