When planning family photos, one of the first questions I get is: “Where should we take them?” Springfield, Missouri has some truly beautiful locations for family photography, but the best location isn’t always the most popular one. Sometimes, it’s the place where your real life happens.

Below are some of the best locations for family photos in Springfield MO, along with a reminder of why meaningful places can be just as powerful as scenic ones.

Classic Outdoor Family Photo Locations in Springfield, MO

These locations are popular for a reason — they’re beautiful year-round and offer lots of visual variety.

Nathaniel Greene/Close Memorial Park

Often called the Springfield Botanical Garden, this park is full of walking paths, open fields, flowering gardens, and wooded areas. It’s ideal for families who want a natural, timeless look with lots of space for kids to explore (and play).

Why it works:
  • Seasonal color throughout the year
  • Plenty of room for movement and candids
  • Soft, natural light near golden hour

Fellows Lake

Fellows Lake offers a more open, expansive feel — water, sky, trails, and wide horizons. It’s especially great for families who love the outdoors or want something a little less “garden-y.”

Why it works:
  • Peaceful, uncluttered backgrounds
  • Gorgeous light near sunset
  • Feels calm, natural, and grounded

The Most Meaningful Locations Are Often Personal

While parks are beautiful, some of the most emotionally powerful family photos happen in places that are deeply personal.

At Home

Your home holds your everyday life — the place where bedtime stories happen, where kids grow inches overnight, where pets nap in sunbeams. Family photos at home feel intimate, real, and timeless.

Years from now, you won’t just see faces — you’ll remember:
  • That couch everyone piled onto
  • The hallway with height marks on the wall
  • The backyard where your kids ran barefoot

In Your Neighborhood

Walking your neighborhood, sitting on your front steps, or playing in the yard can turn a photo session into a memory in itself. These sessions feel effortless and authentic, especially for young kids.

Places That Mean Something to Your Family

Maybe it’s:
  • The park you visit every weekend
  • The trail where you taught your child to ride a bike
  • A family farm, lake spot, or grandparent’s house
These locations do more than look good — they preserve a chapter of your life.

Why Location Matters More Than You Think

Family photos aren’t just about how you look — they’re about how it felt to be there. When your photos include meaningful locations, they become memory anchors.

Every time you look at them, you remember:
  • The sounds
  • The routines
  • The season of life you were in
That’s why I always help families choose locations that feel right for them, not just what’s trending.

My Approach to Family Photos

As a parent myself, I know that kids don’t always want to “stand still and smile.” That’s okay — play is part of the process. Some of the best moments happen between poses: laughing, wandering, hugging, being yourselves.

We’ll choose a location that:
  • Fits your family’s energy
  • Gives kids space to move
  • Feels natural and comfortable
And we’ll shoot until we know we’ve captured something real.
